Too many schools are out of control because principals are afraid to suspend disruptive students (“Teachers, parents want real discipline as NYC student suspensions fall,” New York Post, Jun. 4). That means those students who want to learn are being deprived of their education.
The softening of discipline is the direct result of overreaction to data showing that Black and Hispanic students are suspended more often than white and Asian students. Until students are held accountable for their behavior regardless of their race, little will change.
